So you show off in the ones you know don't read you?
I think it depends on why they don't read you. I mean, I friend a bunch of minor Internet celebrities, and maybe I might casually mention something I've done that would be of interest to their other fans.
But as for people I know and who know me who don't read me? I simply don't communicate with them most of the time...
I for one don't. But I *am* accutely aware of who reads my journal, both on my list and off, and occationally mention or omit things based off of that.
I don't really know who reads me or doesn't. Sometimes I wonder about it, but I don't know of a good, definitive way to find out. I do write for my audience though. I mean, sometimes I write inane crap that isn't directed at any person or group in particular, but sometimes I will include or omit things based on what I suspect my readers will or won't be interested in hearing.
I'm curious about what prompted this question. Internet/LJ trend you've noticed? Something that you think is happening to you? Something you do and you want to know if you have company? Oh, the possibilities...
early on, i cared way too much whether someone read me back. then i decided to totally not care about it. and that worked. except in a very few cases, wehre I'm just pretty sure a handful of people should read me, yet do not.
I don't show off exactly, but when I do comment in the journal of a minor .net celebrity, I feel kinda self-conscious and like I need to be careful to show my good side.
