Well the housing benefit assessment lady's been, my Social Security benefits papers scrutinised (they only just arrived in time this morning!), my bank statements checked (and she asked about payments in from Zoom - luckily I'd remembered that was the company name for Evans and it was refund against items returned), my ISA book checked, my ( Read more... )

rofl, funny isn't it that one feels at one's guiltiest when one hasn't done the slightest thing wrong .... I suppose with the benefits thing, its like the assumption is that they are really harsh and expect people to live dull and utterly unpleasurable and joyless lives just because they have the bloody cheek not to be working for one reason or another. Partly a hangover from the good ol' " protestant work ethic " and partly a folk memory of being means tested for " t'welfare " in the past ... I remember feeling somewhat guilty if I spent any of my benefits on anything not strictly utilitarian. Conversely, before that I didn't use to feel guilty if I spent any of my measly grant money at college on alchohol instead of art materials !!

It is weird how things make you feel isn't it? LOL And anyway surely an art student spending money on alcohol is an essential? LOL
