These are the crippling fears I struggle with

Aug 23, 2010 22:20

First of all, thank you to the wonderful anonymous person who has made this account a paid one! I think it is my first paid account ever, so I am pretty excited about what to do with it-- thank you very much, I love you ♥ I will use these newfound powers for good, oh god, what are these powers, even!

I have been looking over my inception_bang prompt recently, ( Read more... )

writing is a product of anxiety

The prompt I decided on for my big bang was one from the kinkmeme, actually, and one that was already filled... The difference, I suppose, is that mine will be longer if it has to be at least 15k and there are many ways to write the same prompt! Which is why there are multiple fills, and why we love them. So many different perspectives and stories that can be spun out of the same idea ( ... )

Hahaha, you make perfect sense, but go eat breakfast because it is an important meal! Have you started writing for the BB yet, or are you trying out more regular-sized fics first?

Your examples of which-fic-was-this actually remind me very acutely of the scene I am most worried about! It is not something exceedingly unusual, much like "Arthur meets Eames as a projection first", and I feel like it is a matter of time before it shows up as a meme prompt, I am only just lucky that it hasn't happened yet. HNNNG FINGERS CROSSED KEEP BEING LUCKY

I've never been in a fandom with a big bang before, so I am actually insanely excited and jittery about this already, oh my god, and it's still August XD

Sign-ups haven't even ended yet! Don't worry, we can be excited and jittery together. I have a plot in my head and a cheesy summary that reads like, hm, possibly the back of a dramatic romance-posing-as-psychological-thriller paperback, and I love it. But classes haven't started and I just know I'm going to be flinging things once it comes to actually writing it.

I haven't started writing it yet! Trying out shorter things for the kinkmeme right now but aside from those 3 paragraphs last night, not so much is happening. There is only so many times you can write about Arthur & Eames cuddling, I am pretty sure. :(

Oh, I am super ahead of myself, haha. I love your prompt-- it's such a classic that can be taken in so many different emotional directions within the same fic, and then when they start exploring the subconscious workings beneath the phenomenon, it GOES DEEPER (oh Nolan) than when it is written in any other fandom! It is going to be amazing :D

Perhaps you ought to get drunk tonight, because although I love your liver, I am not sure that it is more beautiful than your fics.

I'm having some very similar trepidations, in addition to fretting over my occasional tendency to lose interest in plot bunnies once deadlines are involved. Which, um, is also why I haven't actually signed up yet. The waffling process is a very serious one.

But. There are only seven archetypal stories in the world, so surely that means fandom has room for a few different interpretations of them. And a little deja vu is very much in keeping with this fandom's zeitgeist anyway. Conclusion: THINGS ARE INDEED BEAUTIFUL AND MORE BEAUTIFUL ONES CAN AND SHOULD BE MADE.

What! You should definitely sign up! I mean, not if it will stress you out, but... 15K from you!! Oh, hearts in my eyes. ♥

This is true. But I feel like, I was lucky enough to find a good prompt, and it will be very sad if I end up making it boring because of the way I chose to flesh it out. D: IN THE END, THOUGH, YOUR WORDS DO COMFORT ME AND I WILL CLING TO YOU--

Here's the thing: there are literally thousands of recursive tropes in fandom, and it ends up that it's not so much what A does to B does to C as how you get there and how you write it. I believe in you. :)

And I do love tropes (HELLO!) more than almost everything else in the world, so this is excellent advice :D I will embrace them!

First of all: homg InceptionBang is going to be so awesome *_*, so many awesome writers and now you too <333.

Second, I don't think you have anything to worry about (nor does any other writer), because as has been said (more eloquently) fandom and even literature is just mostly a retread of what has in one way or another already been done. But this is imho totally not a bad thing, since new writers bring new ideas to old ones... sdlkfdslfj god that sounds weird lol. Each writer has their own perspective and their own unique way of telling a story that I think no matter how many books/fics are written there'll always be something new in them.

It's perhaps not a surprise that I am a huge fan of remix-challenges and films like Rashomon and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, lol. Now I wanna go meta >.>, because I feel like so many Arthur/Eames fics are kind of RaGaD-stories, and I LOVE THEM FOR IT, but yeah... lol, this is probably not the post for that hahaha.

So uh, in conclusion: IT'S GONNA BE AWESOME NO MATTER WHAT!

It is going to be so amazing! I do not even know how it will be physically possible to read millions of words of awesome, and yet... there will be no other alternative but this excruciating joy.

I think mostly I was wary about the specifics of the stories overlapping, more than the general what-happens wireframe of it-- which is a considerably less alarming thought, but-- oh, anyway, there is no point in worrying, if it is not prompted or used in another fic until then, that would be near miraculous but also very pleasant-- if it is written, then it is written! That is the way it is!

All posts are meta o'clock posts :D

Ikr? The only thing better would be the universe giving out Eames'/Tom Hardys of our very own *___*, or Arthurs/JGLs.

Even if they did, I think it still wouldn't matter. But yay, the Zen approach is always best!

...... ahahah don't tempt me, I have been saving up/procrastinating on another epic meta post I've been slowly writing up, so ... this could end up long (and boring u.u) :D!
