Wizarding School Challenge 2006

Aug 25, 2006 20:10

As promised, the latest Weasley Sweaters challenge!

Have you ever wished there was a Wizarding school in your area? Here's your chance to design one.

Goal: To create your own Wizarding School somewhere out in the world.

Specifications: A write-up describing the school and an official school item in any craft medium. The craft item could be part of a school uniform or something the school would have in the dorms or classrooms, etc. This challenge is wide open.

Requirements:
Write-up - Describe the school with things like where it is and who the student body are, if it's known for anything special, etc.. Write it up however you like, but keep in mind the more entertaining it is, the more votes it's likely to get!

Craft item - like last time, a FO and/or a pattern/tutorial with at least one concept picture is required by the deadline. Any pattern in an entry without a FO must be free for not-for-profit use. Some things which could be made are patches or badges, something from the uniform (if any), the school seal, banners, and anything you can imagine in a campus book store geared to school pride (and profit). Did I mention this is wide open? It really, really is.

Please use lj-cuts judiciously in the case of long posts.

There is no limit to the number of entries by each person, but each entry will be considered independently of anything else submitted by that person. The entries will then be polled for 1) best write-up 2) best craft item concept 3) best combined execution. The scores for each will be averaged for the final standing. Please be sure to use the "challenge-wizarding school 2006" tag so I don't miss your entry when I set up the poll.

Deadline: All entries must be in by 11:59pm October 22. Judging will be conducted by poll the following week and conclude on October 27. If you need to edit your entry post, make sure to do it by the deadline.

Prizes:
1st Place: a first place banner and a prize package containing: 2 balls of elann Highland Wool, one partial ball of Knitpicks Wool of the Andes, and one ball of SRK Ovation in color "purple rain" (no label, not pictured). The wools are worsted weight, of course. SKR Ovation is a very fine kid mohair/silk blend which is worked as a DK for an open, lightweight fabric.

2nd Place: a second place banner and a $5 LJ gift certificate.

3rd Place: a third place banner and 2 months of paid icon time.

Hope this sounds fun! Questions in the comments if you've got 'em.

And in unrelated news, some of the folks who indicated interest in writing up tutorials will be hearing from me in the next week or two, either by email or by a comment in their journals. I've discovered that most of you don't actually have your email addresses visible, so yep, I'll be leaving comments. I should have had folks comment if they were interested in writing something up. *grumbles about eagle-eye-hindsight*

And in even more unrelated news, I'm pimping my own brand new comm. itinerant_craft is intended as a resource and planning area for fandom crafters who will be attending larger fandom events and want to schedule some sort of crafty programming, be it an official workshop or demo, or unofficial crafty side trips with other attendees. It's not a comm about projects, but about organizing events and gatherings, so it shouldn't overlap much with the content here. And if you'd like my fervent gratitude, spread the word.
