Glow in the Dark.

Just got back from the Glow in the Dark Tour (Kanye/Rihanna/NERD/Lupe) at the Bell Centre. Want to write up something about Kanye's evolution from rap star to pop icon and how the stage show abandoned key tropes of hip-hop culture and performance in order to make that jump. Explore/compare/contrast. But first, sleep and basic thoughts.

I'll be "hearing" this show tonight since I'm working at the venue it's at. As such, I will "hear" Lupe Fiasco's set, and let you know how awesome it "sounds."

I hate you. Also...."hear"? Where will you be that you won't be seeing it? Because it's really a visual insane-fest.

I take tickets, so depending on what entrance I'm at, I may or may not be able to actually visually see the show. Which sort of sucks, because I'd love to see his ship proposition Kanye, but it's better than nothing.

Turns out that I actually got to see the concert after all.

Lupe Fiasco's set wasn't really a set at all. He did maybe four songs, and I think all of them were off of The Cool. I can't remember all of them, since I was pretty distracted, but I know he opened with "Hip-Hop Saved My Life" and closed with "Superstar," I believe. Really, it was pretty sucky that he didn't get a longer set, because the crowd loved him.

N.E.R.D. was actually ok last night. Though it was pretty creepy when they got a bunch of girls to come on stage during "She Wants to Move" and Pharrel was macking on all the jailbait.

Astonishing fact about Rihanna: she will not be able to buy drinks legally for another nine months.

She must be persuaded sing an impassioned and desperate Kelly Clarkson song, such as "Hear Me."

Did she sing "Haunted"?

I don't believe so. The openers sets were 30-45 minutes, which I suppose is how I missed Lupe.

Rihanna started with Breakin' Dishes and then did (no specific order) Don't Stop the Music, Pon de Replay, S.O.S., Hate That I Love You, Take a Bow, Unfaithful, Shut Up and Drive, Umbrella. I don't think she did Push Up on Me, but I could be wrong.

Maybe that's why she scheduled the concert.
