I took out my labret piercing, one year and a week after I had it done. It had started messing up my gumline, making one tooth sensitive, and gum apparently doesn't grow back. Damn ( Read more... )

That sounds like a good plan to me -- I'm in favor of both El Yunque and the bioluminescent bay, though I'd also like a chance to see some of the city. Local food! Is anything vegetarian-friendly? I can at least address my major food problems in Spanish; limpingly but (normally) comprehendibly.

I don't have a bathing suit. Spandex shorts and a sports bra okay?

I sent you an email a couple days ago; did you get it? In short, veggie friendly is pretty difficult, but there are some restaurants I haven't been to, near my place - Japanese and Turkish - that should fit the bill. There is an organic vegetarian place I love, but it is open only for lunch and only on weekdays. Doh. But I'm planning to hit Costco before you get here, as they have decent produce; what can I get you?

Spandex shorts and sports bra fine. The bio bay is super buggy but they don't let you wear DEET repellent since it messes with the bioluminescing critters. If there's a mosquito repellent that you can use, we'll want to get some. Bring an umbrella too.

Old San Juan, where I live, is perhaps the most interesting part of the city to see (modulo beaches), conveniently. Since your flight is early Sunday evening I think we can devote Sunday to seeing San Juan, and use Saturday to get out of town. There is a restaurant a block from my house that does great Sunday brunch, too!

Hey, I met a friend of yours at a random party in Oregon last weekend. Um, forgetting his name. Deepak? (No, this is not as weird as meeting a friend of yours in a line to ride a boat in Croatia, but I've already checked that one off the list.) Overheard him talking about Puerto Rico and mentioned your first name. There can be only one...

My buddy and I had given him a ride to the party at the host's request, but this came up hours later. Small world, huh?

Deepak! Yes, opalmirror turned out to be friends with my friend Quinn, who visited me a month ago and put her pics of the trip on Flickr. He commented on one that he's visiting PR next month, so we added each other on Facebook and he goes "oh! You know canyonwren! And Deepak! And..." So we randomly have friends in common from all three West Coast cities I've lived in. Small world indeed. Deepak is hopefully coming to visit me sometime!

You should consider getting a vertical labret piercing instead. No metal actually goes into your mouth, so no chance of tooth or gum damage. And I think they are even sexier than regular labret piercings personally! ;)

Ooh, good tip. You removed yours - was it bothering you or was it for work respectability or something?

Work, although there is no anti-facial piercing policy at my new job so perhaps I shall get it done a 3rd time! ;)

What's the tune to "I Got A Nautical-Theme Pashmina Afghan"? I can't really hear it in my mind. Except maybe as some punk rock chick screaming the words into a microphone before the band behind her blasts into some fast 3-chord riff.

Your life sounds pretty sweet right now! Happy for you.

(And hey, just noticed you were listening to my mix. Aww. I need to make some new ones...)
