Once you've moved there, I can recommend some places. (Is this for law school? Then you'll be right in my old neighborhood...)

Yep, law school. I'm familiar with Broadway; a little with First Hill (Barca, the Cha-Cha, Linda's, etc.); and I know next to nothing in the U-District (or other areas such as Fremont, Wallingford, Queen Anne). I'll be wanting unpretentious bars, particularly ones with great happy hour menus (both food & drink); good, cheap burritos and sushi; and above-average Thai and Indian food. Basically, places where I can escape from the intense regime of my 1L year and have fun while sticking to what will be a very straitened budget. If there are any clubs/club nights you enjoy, or places with awesome jukeboxes, I'd be open to those as well (so far I've only been to goth clubs like the Vogue).

I'm not much of a bar person, so the places I liked were about as unpretentious and local as you can get: I spent many fond afternoons the big time brewery eating lunch with a beer, and the University Inn bar has a rad jukebox.

The food I miss most is Thai Tom (on the ave, maybe 47th) and Cedars (Indian, 50th and Brooklyn, I think). Good burritos and sushi are more of a downtown thing, I think.

Also, are there any cheapo second-run brew'n'view movie theaters like McMenamin's or the Laurelhurst?
