I have two grown children who can only make minimum wage and they both live with me because they cannot afford to support themselves on the wages they earn

The next proposal should be: reduce Congressional pay back down to the levels it was the last time the minimum wage was increased. Then, tie Congressional raises to the minimum wage. Congress must give America a raise every time it gives itself a raise. Fair?

That's exactly what I'd like to see, although the reduction of pay back to the level it was the last time the minimum wage changed is pure brilliance.

Who will be strong and send that legislation forward? Can't we get MoveOn or DFA working on this? Who will sponsor the "Congressional Minimum Wage Act?"

Thanks. I don't think it was my idea; I'm sure I read it somewhere. Someone should add up the money it would save (let's see: the average increase in Congressional pay since 1997 was listed as around $30,000 per member, there are five hundred something members, so it'd be well over $15 million)... and then let's put that $15 million into a Minimum Wage Earner Fund to divy up on the basis of need. Not much, but it'd be a start.

Redistribution of wealth, you holler? Where were you when Congress was redistributing your wealth (tax dollars) to itself?
