You know, I had no idea how much it meant to have people comment until I started writing, and when I did, I realized a few things. Comments are like little jewels, and I treasure every one I get. I understand what it's like to not know how to comment on something (visual art, for example - I'm not always sure what's the right/wrong thing to say). And I'd really prefer that people just enjoy my writing without feeling obligated to comment

LMFAO. I have the opposite problem. I often don't want to say much in comments because I don't want author's to think I'm telling them what their fic's about. I know any art is subjective from both sides. I will say, though, that I think an author is an authority on their own work. That doesn't mean that the reader's interpretation is invalid if they're not interpreting it as the author would, but there's something to be said for intent (outside a clinical/technical context). I paint abstract art - doesn't translate well to fandom - and I know no-one can tell me what my pictures mean, that's for me to decide. However, other people's interpretation of the art always, ALWAYS, says more about them than me, so I can't hold that against them either. The best reaction I can imagine is them making me think, the worst is me not making them think.
