I just absolutely adore this fic. I feel like you absolutely nail Spock and Gaila's characters and their interactions, and it's so refreshing to read a fic where Gaila and Uhura aren't immediately friends and S/U doesn't immediately happen. Very unique and generally awesome. ♥

Thanks! I am glad you are enjoying this. Spock is a hard character to pin down so I appreciate your comments about him, and Gaila - well, she's just so naturally fun to write! Thanks again for reviewing!

for a moment there i thought spock might hurt gaila's feelings...but he didn't and gaila's response was most logical!

well done.

Thanks for reviewing and all your support over at FF.net. I'm so glad you are enjoying this story but what can I say / do?, I've never been a highly reviewed author. I do like writing enough that inspiration will get me writing now and again though. :)

Re: thanks for the PM - I personally hate using it - but appreciate your gesture. No, no messy triangle is happening here. I will try and make it a bit clearer in the next chapter! Thanks for the tip again!

Now I understand why Gaila is territorial with Spock, she is looking for a lover/father/big brother figure rolled into one and Uhura is a threat to all that. So does it take her to befriend Uhura first before she can accept a S/U or does she accept S/U for Spock's sake?

Well, the answer to your question is forthcoming! But yes, part of the reason why Gaila exhibited such possessiveness re: Spock was her view of him as a brother, someone she didn't want to have a mere romp with but someone she connected with on an entirely different and much deeper level. On a subconscious level, I think she sees Uhura as a threat to that but I don't think of Gaila as that petty - more likely, she was particular vulnerable at that time (unpleasant anniversary, no winter break plans) and Spock's overture to Uhura may her feel even more vulnerable. After all, she and Uhura *really don't* get along. It's not like she's any other gal. She's the roommate that she is stuck with and resents. And it's my fault for not building more tension between them, but that's your off-screen scoop. Moreover, Gaila recognizes Spock's limitations - in particular, amongst humans - and she wants to protect HIM. She thinks Uhura's main interest in Spock is selfish (the Romulan thesis) and she doesn't like the idea of Uhura using Spock ( ... )

Oh lovely!

This is the best Gaila I've seen yet. And I continue to adore her interactions with Spock. (And his with her, as well.)
