Ha! I still refuse to see Titanic, and it's worked for years. Technically, his mom took him to Land of the Dead when he was like 8 months old, and I think he did the same thing.
I just loathe James Cameron so much. That's all I'm going to say! It's obligatory.
I saw some/most of Dersu Uzala on TCM. It was pretty good, the ending having that Kurosawa brusqueness you find in a lot of his movies. The Bad Sleep Well, Rashomon, and even Ikiru. Also, color! Nice.
I think Ikiru remains my favorite by him. The final scene always leaves me in tears. I've seen the movie a number of times, but it still always gets me. That swing-- nobody has ever shot a swing so beautifully.
The color was nice. It reminded me of how much John Ford is an influence on him. I've seen Dreams and Ran, but I still haven't seen Kagemusha. What I've seen though, he does color well.
Cameron? Well, he did Terminator and Aliens, so he'll always have that for me. Aside from those, everything I've seen from him has been overblown and trite. That's why I couldn't figure out why Avatar did so well in DVD sales. I thought for certain it was just the 3-D, but people are people.
