How do you guys feel about silent protagonists--specifically, the PCs in the main Pokémon games? Since they're meant to be 'you', they have little personality past what they give you if you choose the other-gender character, or what you can sort of infer from interactions with NPCs. Assuming the few obvious traits were also covered, would you accept an app that was mostly fanon or headcanon?
And, okay, we're here and I'm curious. How about certain Pokémon from the anime that have personalities? Like... I'd guess you wouldn't be able to join with a lone Pikachu, because he would be near impossible to play apart from Ash, but how about most of the legendaries as seen in the movies or "wild" ones like the recurring Jigglypuff?
Thanks for your time, mods! This seems like a fantastic game and I can't wait until it opens.
Silent protagonists are indeed allowed! However, please be aware that characters that are more than 50% headcanon are really considered OCs, so we'd really like some sort of canon backing -- for example, there are usually manga with the same faces and a more defined personality. There could only be one character for each of the Pokémon games. I hope that made sense... I am not as Pokémon-savvy as you may think.
Pokémon like Pikachu is, as we have mentioned above, more of a possession/pet than an actual character because he doesn't actually speak. Pokémon legenaries could only be applied as themselves if they could speak, such as Mewtwo and Team Rocket's Mewoth. Otherwise, all Pokémon who cannot speak are considered a possession.
No problem! You guys are getting us all hyped up. :3
Haha, it makes sense, don't worry! I apologize for being a complicated pain in the butt to begin with.
So if one were, for example, to apply for Gold, you'd prefer for it to be the one as seen in Pokémon Special, yes? Or... is it more that you could apply for him as seen in the games, just that his personality would need to be backed up by Special!Gold so there's more canon-like substance to it and less headcanon? (For clarification's sake, this is only important to make note of because they do have quite the separate roles, and relate to the other characters like Silver and Lance a lot differently.)
And your clarification on applying for actual Pokémon makes perfect sense, so thank you for that. :)
A question! I'm considering a character whose original canon is a video game - would I be able to apply them from the (canonical) manga adaptation instead? It's a slightly different series of events, and the personalities of the various characters are a lot more fleshed out.
Also, what about characters who are, well, main characters, but their background is barely covered in the source material? Is headcanon acceptable there? The manga adaptation would minimise the amount of headcanon required, if nothing else.
That's fine! We prefer whichever canon source that allows characters whom you are apping for to have a more definite personality. The theory is that if your character is more than 50% headcanon, it's an OC. Using the manga adaption would indeed help.
Is it alright if I link my apps externally, or do you want them each posted in their own comments? I'm afraid I might mess up the HTML if I post them comment by comment.
You know, you have good timing for this, since I was just thinking the same thing. I'll have to consult the other mod, to make sure, but I think two characters from the same fandom is alright as long as they don't interact with each other a lot. I am into terribly obscure fandoms, so I can't give you a good example, but if they're best friends, that's probably not going to be okay.
This is the other mod in question--applying for characters of the same fandom is all right provided they're not closely connected. It should be characters who seldom speak to or heavily reply on eachother.
How long or detailed should a wiki article be about the character? The character I want to app has a rather lacking article, it does explain exactly what she did during the story, but has barely any detail and doesn't actually explain the story at all. Should I simply write my own, or would something like that be usable.
