In which Dean needs some questions answered.

Dean still wasn't sure if he was believing what he was hearing. It was almost -- impossible. He didn't understand the "why" of the whole thing, and that was what was getting under his skin the most. Ruby had been a demon for so long, it just didn't make sense to make her human again ( Read more... )

"I'm not your guardian angel."

Castiel appeared sitting next to Dean on the hood of the Impala. He gave very little warning of his appearance, just the usually rustle of wings and rustle of his coat. He was admittedly surprised to hear Dean asking for his help. The angel thought of it as progress and a show of trust. While there were other tasks he needed to do, they could wait for him to talk to his charge.

"I am a guide, a... go between," he continued, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. "What do you need, Dean?"

Details. "Whatever."

He paused for a minute, and actually didn't jump as much as he normally did when Cas appeared out of nowhere. Maybe he was getting used to it, maybe he was expecting it, he wasn't sure, but right now, he just needed to talk to someone who knew more than he did, and he was almost -- glad -- that Cas was there.

"Ruby's human." There was a pause as he realized he may need a little more than that. "I was hoping you might have some idea as to why."

Castiel turned and looked at Dean, one eyebrow raised just a fraction of an inch higher than the other.

"Ruby, the demon?" he asked rhetorically. He knew who Dean was talking about. His eyes went distant as he listened to the ether and the network between angels. It would sound like a bunch of static if Dean could hear it, but after a moment Castiel focused in on him again.

"Gabriel is responsible for changing her. I do not know why, but it is most likely the Will of God."

"Gabriel."

Dean knew of Gabriel, at least, and that wasn't giving him warm and fuzzy feelings. The whole 'Will of God' schtick he wasn't necessarily buying, but he'd go with it for now.

"Doesn't she get some kind of choice here? I mean -- I doubt she gave permission for him to do something like this."
