[ ...well, Beika or not, Ran knows she still has people to take care of here. Wth what happened to Heiji and Adam, and Conan being around--she feels she really can't afford to slack, even if she still worries about how things are going back home, with her father, her best friend Sonoko...the other Detective Boys.
She's snuck out early this morning

Does he look a little like someone you know, Ran?]

He doesn't even know the half of it, really, but...it almost seems like he understands; and even though he's not Shinichi, she has to admit, he still has some of the same charm-- ]

R-ran takes it from his hand, which had been bare just a moment ago. ]
....i-it's...nice to meet you too--
I didn't know you were a magician...

Aw, it's nothing much. I've been able to do that since I was six. Just think of it as my apology for the case of mistaken identity.

S-since you were six? [ Jeez, they start early-- ] That's pretty impressive...!
B-but, no, it's...it's not your fault, really.
I guess he's at least safe at home somewhere, rather than this dump...
[ Grumble grumble. Still bitter. ]

[KAITO LOVES BLUSHING. At least, when he's not the one doing it. The fact that she looks a tiny bit like Aoko doesn't hurt matters any.]
It really isn't all that difficult-- I could teach you how to do it, if you'd like.
Ah!
[Kaito leans in a little, lowering his voice to a hush.] But you'd have to keep it a secret, okay? Magician's trade and all that, I'm sure you understand. [He makes a mock, solemn face.] It's very serious business.

[ Ran blinks; the flower held to her face, since she'd pulled it closer to smell its fragrance. She looks at it, and blushes even more (just a little bit!) when he whispers.
F-ffff, well, she is kind of curious...if it's not magic, then...? ]
Well, yeah...yeah, I understand. [ Snerk. Very srs bsns. ] I can keep a secret...
[ She can. If only someone would give her the chance. ]

But he grins a bit wider and pulls back to give her some space.]
Yeah! It was the first trick my dad ever taught me. There are actually a couple different ways you can do it, but one of the easiest ways is with long sleeves or miniature smoke pellets if you want a little more oomph in the apparition.
Basically, what it all comes down to in the end though, is having very very quick fingers. [He wiggles the fingers of the hand that isn't in a brace to serve as an example.]
... ah. And wherever you choose to stash your flower, make sure you're gentle with it-- squashed petals are not nearly as impressive of a finished product as a full bloom.
[And I am being purposefully vague, because Kaito's magic is only ever explained by Conan in DC. Otherwise, who the feck knows how he does any of the crap he does?]

She hadn't really thought of it, in all honestly, and she looks disappointed. ]
Guess I should've known that would happen.
[ Damn. If only she'd waited a moment longer... ]

That's what practice is for, you know.
Do it a couple times with the paper one first. It'll be easy to tell if you're putting too much pressure on them that way, but it's also easy to fix, unlike the live bloom.
[He thinks about it for a moment.]
Actually... [Kaito moves in to stand next to her, holding the live bloom up so she can clearly see it in his hands.] If you study the shape of the petals, then you can emulate how the flower might have looked when it was still a bud and fold it away like that when you hide it.
That way, when you pull it out, it'll spring back to form and it will actually appear as if the flower suddenly bloomed in your hands.

Both of those actually sound like pretty good ideas, when she thinks about it. She takes both the origami one and the live one in her hands, though of course the live one is far more captivating, so she focuses on it first. ]
That sounds like something I'd like to see. [ A demonstration, maybe? Or just an excuse to see something pretty...ah, but either way. ] Have you ever done it that way?

I... kind of do it without thinking mostly, to be honest.

[ Pfffffft. She doesn't know whether to laugh or just facepalm, really. She just shakes her head, smirking. ]
I swear--you guys even sound alike.

Sorry.

It's not really your fault.
[ She wonders if it's anyone's fault at all, really. is still holding the flower bud close to her face, the origami folded one in her other hand. ]
...but, thanks. You know, for...teaching me. They're very pretty.
