Gene could be described as being awake, though you might not know it to look at the way he's slouching by the fire.
Can't blame it on being drunk, either. There's nothing stronger in front of him than a cup of (extremely) sweet tea.
He watches Fry walk across the bar, and curses quietly. If the lad's here, then his dad'll be somewhere too. Guppy's the last person he wants to see at the moment.
Fry looks around, sees Gene, and comes over. He's wearing a little white shirt and a dark blue tank top with a 'Cherry Tree School' logo embroidered on it.
"Gene! There's a buggler!" he says, tugging Gene's trousers.
