Recovery, such as it is, has been both painful and tedious.

He does what he's told, and he does his best to ignore the pain; he goes over the sitrep Saul gave him in his head.

He thinks about religion, and why and how people say they're receiving messages from the gods.

He sleeps, drugged.

He wakes, and he's sitting up in bed.

At his bedside is a cup of water, and a book. Should anybody come in, he'll be flipping through the latter, wire-rimmed glasses present and accounted for.
