The Last Laugh

They have the best vantage point possible. Three stories up and across the street. The light rain is more of a nuisance than a hindrance. Otherwise they have a clear eye shot to the front entrance of The Last Laugh. A sign above the front door reads "Novelty Items, Gifts, and The Occasional Gag ( Read more... )

The last time rain had graced Gotham City, Jason had announced his presence. Not to mention, he nearly took me out for good. At the time, we thought he was just Clayface, taking on what he would've looked like had he not died. Now we knew better.

Jason wasn't our target this evening, however. Our target resembled a deadly clown who Batman and I had encountered more than once.

"Any chance he'll show up this evening?"

"You say you don't wanna die, but you don't seem to know precisely who you're talking to. And it doesn't seem like you don't know what he's capable of." I noted, the smirk still on my face.

"And, if you're worried about safety, Batman could always grant you asylum with Commissioner Gordon." I added calmly.

His only response is a snarl and a show of teeth. For all this clown knows, Batman is going to rip him apart piece by piece.

With his partner out cold on the floor next to him and no way of escape, the painted face man begins to cry in earnest.

"Please don't hurt me! Please! He's there-"

He makes a half-hearted gesture towards the hallway. Towards the back of "The Last Laugh".

"Thanks for the info." I replied, the smirk never leaving my face. At least, not at the moment.

"Now you get to go to Blackgate-where the food isn't that bad, where Joker won't be going, and you'll probably get out for good behavior. That is, if you remember to not get caught up in stuff like this again; otherwise, you'll end up running into us again, and I don't recall Batman giving people second opportunities."

*SMACK!!!*

Forehead meets forehead and the thug slumps in Batman's hold. His hands still on the man's lapel, he pulls him into a sitting position.

He looks to Robin. It's a classic set up. Two thugs. Rope. A moment later, the clowns are back to back and tied off. No longer a concern.

An inspection of the room reveals nothing of interest. Back into the shadows they travel. Their goal awaits elsewhere.

After we melted into the shadows as easily as ice melts into water, I made sure to keep in stride with Batman while we headed to the back of "The Last Laugh." Joker had something major up his sleeve, and it was up to us to figure out what it was and stop him.

"What do you think he has planned for Gotham this time?" I asked, ready to spring into action if I needed to.
