Wow, this is so 'Faery', they look like flowers billowing down there. Beautiful and fantastical and such a great scene.

Thank you! Yes, they do look like flowers! I didn't realize that till it was almost finished; I was aware of the use of color just for their 'life', and less that I was making our beloved hobbits fall almost as petals, though they didn't land so gently.

*glomps* This is wonderful, dear! I don't think I've ever seen this scene illustrated before, although I remember it from the book quite vividly. I tend to think Sam jumped first here for pretty much the same reason he tried to descend the cliff in the Emyn Muil first--not wishing to land on top of Frodo and injure him worse than the original fall... landing on top in bed is one thing (and Sam does that soooo well), but landing on top of him from a height on hard ground is something else. 'But it's only sense: put the one lowest as is most likely to slip. I don't want to come down atop of you and knock you off. No sense in killing two with one fall.' I love all the details (thorns, Frodo's orc clothes, Sam's Elvish cloak) and I have to agree with you and ASD--they do remind me a bit of flower petals floating down, only to be snagged and torn on the thorns below. It's always great to see more of your art--hope to see more of your writing soon too! *subtle hint* btw, any update from A on trip? Still scheduled for June? *squishes*

Oh, Nota, this is beautiful. What an original scene to choose to illustrate. Their expressions say so much about their plight and their cloaks floating about them like butterfly wings make a perfect symbol of the large events these two small beings find themselves drifting within.

This is, I think, a wonderful illustration of both that scene and a summation of the free-fall that was much of Frodo and Sam's quest.

Thanks for sharing!
