[Mitsuhide is content, and it shows. There is a soft smile on his face and his body language suggests he is relaxed. A rare state of mind for the samurai, but it suits him. Currently he is sat in the living room of his home, having just come back from a shopping errand.]I know some within Vatheon celebrated it weeks ago, but the day I and my ( Read more... )

Father, I brought us some peaches for the New Year! [ She smiles at the SFC, showing him a whole paper bag filled with peaches, and other various fruits she recognized. They were all circular. ]

What else can I do?

[Helllllooooo peaches! He definitelty approves of that.]

Those look good.

[A moment of thought.]

We need to gather the ingredients for the food, clean and sort through the house, perhaps gather some new clothing for the occasion... there's more. What would you like to do, my girl?

[ She nodded. ]

They are! The one I tasted had just the right amount of sweet and tangy!

[ Gracia listens to his small list of things to-do, and afterwards, merely shrugs. ] I can help you do all of those, father. Which of them is more important? I'll do that first!

[Don't make him lose himself in mental images of eating those peaches, now.]

They're all equally important, Gracia.

[He chuckles. She has a lot of energy.]

Why don't you go and get yourself some new clothes? Such an occasional calls for finery.

You guys have a different new year from other people?

*Selphie pauses to think about this for a moment - but if everyone was from different worlds, then it did just make sense*

Can I help? You'll have to tell me what you need but it sounds fun!

*She's really loving all these different festivals that keep cropping up*

Different places seem to have different opinions on what day marks the end of the year. This is the only one I was familiar with, before Vatheon.

[He smiles.]

If you wish to join in with the preparation, Miss Selphie, I wil not stop you. Would you like to hear about our traditions first?

Yes, yes! Tell me all about it.

*Leaning into the SFC like she's about to hear a good story*

It's one of the most important festivals of the year. Let me see... the night before, at precisely midnight, a bell is rung 108 times to symbolise the 108 sins. By doing so, we cleanse ourselves of the sins we committed in the previous year.

[Not that he believes it works like that, but it's the traditional story.]

It's lucky to smile as we enter the new year. Indeed, many firsts of the new year are considerd special. The first dream you have, the first tea ceremony you take part in, the first sunrise you see... they are all considered to be special events. Though the last of those is obviously not possible here in Vatheon.

This is your true New Year? That's interesting... do you guys have a different calendar?

Reply

wavesoakedlegs January 29 2011, 16:24:21 UTC
I can only assume that is so.

[..]

We use the Chinese lunar calendar, Red.

Lunar calendar? I've never heard of that before.

[He only gets more curious now. B)]

Where I come from, it's a very old one. Ancient, even.

[Motochika both looks and sounds surprised.]

Ranmaru?

You have not encountered him yet? Ah... forgive me, my Lord, I intended to mention it earlier.

[He tilts his head a little.]

This is not the Ranmaru from our world. I believe he is from Lord Kenshin's; he is still a child.

video; behisstrength January 30 2011, 19:58:57 UTC
Only a child? What do you know about him? [He gives his SFC a considering look -- searching for traces of harboured feelings of responsibility. He knows you too well, wife.]

Very little. What he told me was just enough to draw conclusions about where he came from. He did, however, serve in the army of the Nobunaga of his world, in a high position.

[He sighs. Yup, those feelings of responsibility are right there, clear as day. This is not the Ranmaru he knew, the one who was once his friend, but his guilt regarding Honnouji and everything that happened there means such feelings were pretty inevitable in a person like Mitsuhide.]

He does not trust me, which is understandable.

A New Year's festival would be most welcome indeed.

We may not be in Japan, but we can certainly manage something of a celebration, Lord Kenshin. I will be cooking the traditional dishes.

echigo_wargod January 30 2011, 23:52:17 UTC
Indeed we can. I have some kadomatsu to offer the kami a place to dwell for the celebration. I could bring them for such a celebration.
