Have you seen the film version with Kevin Kline and Linda Ronstadt? Worth watching if only for Tony Azito as the rubber-limbed police sergeant. (Sample here.)

Agreed, it's great fun. Sadly, the Kline film doesn't appear to be available on DVD, only the stage show which the reviews say has poor sound recording.

It's a pretty good reworking of the song - lots of topical references and personal idiosyncracies. I liked the version in the Jonathan Miller production, sung by Eric Idle: "Bishops who don't believe in God, Chief Constables who do", though that's a bit dated now.
