I was 5 when I lost my first one. I distinctly remember the experience. :)

I'd had the loose tooth for a day or two. I kept playing with it. We were next door at our neighbor's house and my mom got me an apple. I bit into the apple and had a few bites and then pop! out came the tooth. Me: Hey MOM my tooth came out! My mom yelped and ran back to our house to get a baggie to put it in.

I remember being much more freaked out about her telling me not to move, and running off, than being concerned about the tooth coming out:)

I too was 5 when I lost my first, and all my teeth are fine and healthy.

Speaking of lost teeth-Emily lost one last night, and the tooth fairy didn't come! I didn't find out until I was taking Emily to day camp. The fairy left a very nice note saying that her Lost Tooth Screen was broken, and she was very busy this morning catching up, and here's an extra dollar to make up for it. OOOPs. :p

JR lost his first tooth (lower front center) last month, BEFORE he turned 5. I was a bit freaked out (just like you I thought he was too young). My dentist took a quick look, though, and said there was nothing to worry about. I posted the story and a photo on my blog, if you want to take a look. http://amazedtoddlermom.blogspot.com/2007/05/toothfairy-alert.html (I think it's cute that Special K and JR have this in common)
