I'm really sad that your 4th years don't know "what's this" and 11-20. My first grade students learn 11-20. And I use "what's this" at the kindergarten. But I see the same kids all the time and you're probably touring through or something....
Ew mushroom oatmeal! I hate mushrooms. Teriyaki chicken sushi??? Where did you find that?
I would use the dry beans but don't soak them overnight. I only suggest this because I throw in uncooked barley when I make soup and it cooks with everything else and comes out fine. It might have to be slow-cooked but I would think it would work... *shrugs*

Your schools have obviously invested in hiring an English teacher and an elementary-exclusive ALT. Sakawa only has me and they spread me pretty thin. I have seven schools, four of which are elementary schools. At the two biggest elementary schools, they have one English class a semester. At the other two smaller ones, they're lucky if they see me twice a year. It is rather sad and kind of scary seeing as how this big overhaul in elementary English classes is coming soon. I teach everything with picture cards but the letters are on them. I wrote stuff on the board last week and 2nd graders at one of my small schools could read it already! I was so proud. The kids at the big school can't read until about 4/5/6th grade. It's because I see the kids more often at the smaller schools.
