Zuko lifted his head from the back of the couch at the sound of the doorbell. He let himself heave a deep sigh and pushed himself up to walk over to the door. He hadn't bothered doing much aside from showering that day so when he opened the door all Katara saw was Zuko in a t-shirt and sweats. His hair sticking up a few places where he'd run his hands through.

He tilted his head at her, knowing that she'd come over with movies and food at hand. They helped a little and since May hadn't been a huge fan of violent movies, Zuko didn't have to think much about she'd say. He tried not to think about the fight they had that ended it. She'd said a lot that he didn't think was true.

He brought up a nod and a welcoming look for Katara, holding the door open to carry the food. "You didn't have to bring this over." He automatically took her jacket and set aside her purse to a side table. He went to the hall closet to dig out a set of slippers she liked to wear.

"Of course I did," she replied, trading her heels for the slippers. She'd come straight from work, so her feet definitely appreciated the break. At least her sweater and skirt were fairly comfortable. She disappeared into his kitchen to find plates, silverware, glasses, and the bottle of wine she knew he was saving for a special occasion. Well. There was no better occasion for alcohol than something like this. "Our friendship contract definitely has a breakup clause. You get Rambo, I get Matt Damon."

She wasn't going to ask him about the details. If he wanted to tell her, he would.

After she found what she was looking for, she bypassed Zuko and headed straight for the living room. In just a few minutes, she had everything out and on the table and the first movie in the DVD player. "I hope you're hungry."

Zuko rolled his eyes at the Matt Damon comment but didn't argue. He did make some pretty good action movies.

"I don't like Rambo," he said just to nitpick. He watched as she walked right into the kitchen, knowing where he kept most of his things. He looked thoughtful for a moment but shook his head as she passed by him right into the living room.

Since she knew where everything was, he made his way back to the couch and dropped into a seat somewhat sluggishly. His nose caught the smell of spice though and he couldn't help but perk up a little over food. "I could eat."

They started into the food as the movie started playing and Zuko felt the comfort of the familiar as Katara joined him on the couch to put up with a few hours of mind-numbing explosions and combat and him in a bad mood. While he watched the action across the screen, he let himself sulk over his food before finally blurting out the question to Katara.

"Do you think I'm insensitive? That I don't pay attention to the important things?"

Katara had been concentrating on her own food (and, really, plotting how she could steal a samosa from Zuko's plate without him noticing) when he jolted her out of her thoughts. That girl was just -- ugh. She really didn't know how good she had it.

And now she threw it away. What an idiot.

"Zuko," Katara said carefully, putting down her plate. She turned and put one hand on his shoulder. "You're the most attentive guy I know. When I walked in, you had slippers for me." She paused. It was always best to be somewhat diplomatic, just in case May came crawling back and the two got back together. The last thing Katara wanted was more awkwardness. "May didn't appreciate things like that. If anything, she took you for granted."
