in circuit lies

A tiny drabble to sneak-peek behind Dean's frantic feats through most of ep. 6.13 (Unforgiven) to steer Sam clear of  the Wall Death set up. I'm still fairly perturbed by the fact that Sam is placidly clueless and unprodding as to what it truly took to get his soul reinstated, the Wall and all.

Oh, love this, I like myself a bit of Dean angst, and you hit his voice very well.

I am not sure how much awareness Dean has of these thoughts, I feel that mostly all his angst is locked away quite safely in his subconscious and if you were to ask him about his motivation he'd say it's all about keeping Sammy safe and nothing else.

Thank you for the lovely comment! I'm glad this little drabble managed to work for you.

Yeah, I'm sure Dean's tribulations and the residual trauma of playing Death (which affected him deeply) is buried deep within his subcounscious. Dean's spectacularly good and burying, if nothing else. But I also think Dean was very *aware* of the responsibility his stint as Death forced him to shoulder. So that burden quite probably is one of the gears behind his drive to protect Sam, even if Dean himself won't admit it. Dean tends to care less whenever it's his own well-being or peace of mind levered against that of Sam's, but since Sam's resoulment cost innocent lives (through what Dean perceives as his personal cosmic screw up) I believe he's unlikely to overlook it or let it go easily.
