Convenient to the longing

Christmas time is kinda naturally associated with season 3 withing the SPN 'verse, as far as I'm concerned (what with the token X-mas episode and all). Cue a random little ficlet in keeping with the mood of the season (pun absolutely intended).

This. This is achingly tender. That is the Sam that I love. I also adore the way you describe Dean through Sam's eyes. Your prose is haunting and effective, hon. <3

Oh, thank you so much! You got me completely humbled here!
Season 3 Sam is too, by far, my favorite Sam - not hell-bent on revenge or a contest of wills with Dad, not obsessed with becoming a monster someday, or addicted to demon blood, or angsting over having unleashed the Apocalypse, but focused completely on his brother. In an angsty, emo, obsessive, trademark-Sam way, sure enough, but still.
It would appear, Dean's impending doom was the trigger for it truly *occurring* to Sam in all clarity what his brother meant and what loosing Dean would mean.

Oh hon, I totally agree with everything you said here. Season3!Sam is my favorite Sam by far. It's the only time Sam isn't too concerned with himself and his destiny. Granted, there's still a touch of "Dean belongs to him, and he doesn't want to loose his brother", but so much of it is about angsting over Dean and Dean's fate for once.

So true!
In all honesty, when all's said and done, I'd rather take 'possessive!Sam' not wanting to loose his brother for whatever smudge of selfish reasons, over a Sam not caring to give a damn for the pain he inflicts and writing his brother out of the books, upon enrolling into college, or running off into the blue, or lying his head off to get away with substance abuse, or letting his brother be turned a vampire, etc.

Gaah! Tulpa!Dean!
Sweet and disturbing. Sam is a strange man.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
I appreciate it beyond words!

Sam did give off the vibe of being on desperation's very edge as season 3 proceeded, so I wouldn't put it past him to at least look into 'recreation' techniques.
