Your question about why the alphas won't give up the location of purgatory is a really good one. Of course, that's also assuming they actually know where it is.

From the two Alphas we saw third-degree questioned (the Vamp and the Sahpeshifter) I got the impression they were a) in the know (especially the A-Vamp); b) prepared to die for the knowledge of Purgatory coordinates. For their attitude was too taunting to be that of the ones completely clueless, or so it appeared to me. Specifically the A-Shapeshifters readiness to sacrifice his spawn without as much as flinching.
