In the Dark of the Night (Evil Will Find Them), with cupcakemoderne

Chloe was supposed to meet up with Lois for dinner on your average Thursday night (well, as average as it gets in Metropolis), but Lois called to say she had to work late. Normally, Chloe would have things to do at the Watchtower, but there were no missions tonight and, let's be honest, she was antsy. So, she texted Lois to tell her cousin that she ( Read more... )

"Ever feel like you're in an episode of that show with those guys? You know the big, brooding ones that drive that classic car and fight all manner of evil? Sometimes I feel like we missed our calling." Lois is humming along in her usual blasé manner but inside she's freaking out just slightly more than usual. The girls run into a random face from the Planet as they step outside the elevator door "Yargh", Lois lets out a little chuckle as the tall man picks Chloe up and moves her out of the way. He gives them a pleasant smile and a "Goodnight Miss Sullivan, Miss Lane." Lois doesn't bring it up but she's pretty sure that was the same bloke who had a crush on Chloe a few years back. She thinks she may have caught a glimmer of something possibly between them when Chloe and he exchanged glances but it was in passing and she let's it go. "Ok, it's damn cold out tonight! Tess really needs to invest in one of those fancy espresso machines...what a perk that would be." Lois has 'quite' the sense of humor tonight. She gives her cousin a quick ( ... )

"I'd be okay with that, but one question first: in the Sullivan-Lane edition of Supernatural, am I Sam or Dean? Wait, don't answer. I think I end up being the soulless one Lucifer wants to play body snatchers with." The random mini-discussion helps as a distraction. She knows Lois is probably freaking out more than she's letting on and humor is a great way to keep that to workable levels. Chloe shrieks when she's picked up, looking at the tall man in confusion, amusement, and a little bit of perturbation. Sometimes, she really wishes she wasn't quite so petite. "Watch the grabby hands there, Brad!" After returning his 'goodnight,' she pushes the front door to the building open and shivers. It /is/ cold out tonight. Lois nudges her and she grins up at her cousin, laughing lightly. She caught and appreciated the joke. "I think you should bring that up in your next contract negotiation. A 24 hour barista for all your midnight oil-burning needs. Or just access to the gourmet coffee ( ... )

"Oooh a 24 hour barista would be fabulous!" Lois is captivated by the thought of a swashbuckling "Han Solo" type coffee slinger, crafting the perfect cup of coffee at her beck and call. She's fairly sure Chloe was just referencing one of those swanky 'Crema' espresso machines but still she can dream. She sighs audibly before the cold quickly snaps her back to reality. "Gah, why is it we've never taken an assignment in Hawaii? She stays close to Chloe under the umbrella - not just for warmth and because she's almost sure she'll slip on some rainy patch breaking off one of her brand new heels - but because she's missed her cousin in a big bad way. No matter who Lois pals around with she always knows Chloe is her go-to gal for every and all things important. "Ok, so what are you having?" She waits for Chloe to place her order and then adds a four-shot Venti Peppermint Vanilla Latte. Just as the girls turn around a loud blast shoots through the sky.

Chloe can see the wheels spinning in Lois' head and actually wonders if Tess could be convinced. It would be a boost for employee morale, right? She grins at her cousin, daydreaming for a second. "I'm pretty sure the amount of reporting we would get done in Hawaii - with beautiful beaches there to tempt constantly - would be close to nil. But maybe one little assignment..." God, she missed Lois. There's no one on Earth quite like her and Chloe wouldn't have her any other way. They may not be biological sisters, but they certainly are in spirit.

Instinctively, Chloe grabs Lois and ducks down as the blast sounds. She's blinded for a second by the glare from the explosion, but then quickly looks around her, surveying the interior of the shop - a couple of broken windows meaning the place is covered in shattered glass. "Is everyone okay? Lo, you alright?"

"What in the bloody hell was that?" She shouts into the air, her ears are ringing and she spilled half of her coffee on her shoes when the blast rang out. "Well this is just peachy." Grumbling and dusting herself off as she gets up. "I'm fine, aggravated but fine." Noticing that Chloe has a bit of shattered glass in her hair she quickly rushes over and lightly brushes them out. As she's tousling the shards out of her own hair she notices the figure in the now glass-less window. "Hey you, over there!"

Relieved to hear that Lois is fine, Chloe moves to check on the other patrons. Nothing life-threatening, but panic in the room is rising. "Lorna, please call the police. Ma'am, everything is going to be alright, I swear." When Lois rushes over, Chloe waves her away - it's just a little glass - but she follows her cousin's gaze toward the window and sees the person standing there. The flames are still burning behind the individual - car bomb? Building?- so the the figure's features are too shadowed to make out. "I'm on it!" Chloe calls this out to Lois before rushing towards the window. As soon as she starts moving, the person takes off, but Chloe is in hot pursuit. Not willing to take the time to make her way to the door, she climbs through and out the window, too amped up on adrenaline to even notice the cuts she gets in the process.

"Chloe, where the hell are you going?" Lois' heart is racing like mad as she helplessly watches her cousin rush off in pursuit of the man in the dark. Stooping over to help an elderly lady pick up her walker she finds some sort of residue on the ground. The coppery odorless substance is everywhere and as soon as Lois helps the grateful cherubic lady to her feet, she takes out her cell phone and uses it as a flashlight. -Her wheels are turning - "Where could this have come from?"

"Damn it!" Ten blocks from the coffee shop, Chloe loses the mystery man. She looks around the alley she followed him into and sees no sign of him. It's as if he just...disappeared. Raising her gaze to the rooftops on either side of her, she searches for clues to where the person went, with no luck. Chloe shoots off a text to Oliver, letting him know what happened (maybe he'll have better luck tracking the suspect), and winces because trying to text with cut hands is not so much with the fun. No help for that right now. "Where the hell did he go?" Logically, she knows he can't have just vanished into thin air. Then again, Chloe has seen some crazy stuff in her life, including people who can teleport. Her fingers are metaphorically crossed, though, that this particular individual wasn't a god. Or a demon. If the person threatening Lois falls into one of those two categories, wildly out-of-hand doesn't begin to cover it ( ... )
