This story is incomplete. I will have to post the remainder of it on the Open posting days. I just couldn’t get it done in time and in fact I’ve only done 1,500 words out of an estimated 5,000 total. Sorry

Oooh, I love this! A truly marvelous addition to all the wonderful stories appearing at watchersdiaries, with their magic and mystery. I've so enjoyed reading them thus far, and am eagerly anticipating the conclusion of this!
I didn't mean to make the men sound mysterious. They're just strangers to her, rather than being recognisably members of her clan and their allies, and so she has no idea whether or not she can hope for any help from them.
Here's the summary for the second part as a teaser:
Every girl dreams of a handsome hero to save her from the villains; but there's never a hero around when you need one, and Ann Collingwood's hopes must rest on a disfigured murderer with a death wish. And on her little bit of magic. It's not much, against seventeen ruthless killers, but it's all she has.

I had thought to wait till the last part was posted to read because I love to savor your words and knew I would be salivating for more at this point....sigh...I couldn't wait any longer. As with Mists you have created a haunting world that is filled with vivid imagery and fascinating characters. Your historical setting is utterly believable and easy to "see" in my mind. Wonderful! Looking forward to seeing how Anne's dilema is resolved (and this interesting sounding hero is compelling too).

Thanks!
I've actually posted another 1,200 words of this, including the first appearance of the hero, on my Greatest Journal (because hardly anyone will see it there).
What an intriguing beginning! You always manage to weave such detail and imagery into your writing. You have a gift of putting the reader right there - seeing it all happen.
