Well, this is news to me! I had no idea Paul Blackthorne was in the Dresden Files--my friend asked me a while ago if I wanted to watch with him and I declined. I wouldn't if I had known he was in it! I'm always surprised when there's something relatable to Indian cinema on my regular TV screen.
And then I just read that he was in Lipstick Jungle--I cannot believe I didn't recognize him in all of those commercials I saw for that show. *hangs head*
Yes, it's a big shame there is only one Aamir Khan. :( *sniff*
I felt the same way with Paul Blackthorne. I first had no idea where I had seen him, and then it hit me. I also agree that my knowledge about cricket will fade. Hee. I always say I am going to learn more about the game (after I watch Lagaan) and then quickly forget I ever thought about it. :D
I'm going to try and re-watch the show this weekend.
One thing that always hits me about this movie is how much I enjoy the love track between Gracy Singh and Aamir Khan. I really feel for the character Gauri and her naivety and fear that Bhuvan won't/doesn't love her. On that note, I also feel that Gracy Singh did an excellent job in this movie and I wish she had gotten better roles after this. She was strictly okay in Munnabhai MBBS and I feel Preity Zinta stole the show from her in Armaan, which wasn't that great of a movie in and of itself.
I find that Ashutosh Gowariker has a really good handle on love stories, even when they aren't the main focus of the story (eg. Lagaan, Swades, Jodhaa-Akbar).
This was also my first or second Aamir Khan movie (Dil Chahta Hai was the other) and I was amazed at his versatility in these two movies. :)
I was incredibly saddened by Gracy Singh's lack of good roles as well. I thought she did such a fantastic job in this film - her dancing, her innocence and yet loyalty towards the man she so very much admired was played really well. I loved her character so much I have to say I didn't really feel that much for Elizabeth. *grin*
First of all, I am so glad this won. I've been meaning to rewatch it, but with my schedule so busy, I need an excuse to devote almost 4 straight hours to movie-watching. XD
- I love Rajesh Vivek (Guran) a lot. He's great in everything I've seen him in, but particularly this. - I also really love Gauri and Gauri/Bhuvan a lot. ♥ - I was very disappointed when Gauri did not actually become the sixth member of the team. That would have been pretty awesome~ - Aamir is looking rather good in this, isn't he? :3 - I hate that the subtitles for "O Ri Chori" have Bhuvan and Gauri calling each other 'lassie' and 'laddie'. What, has the movie been transported to Scotland without any warning? XDD - I don't like the bit about Elizabeth being Bhuvan's Radha very much. I thought it was fairly clear that Elizabeth's love for him was unrequited? And, besides, I'd rather she find someone else than spend the rest of her life moping over him!
The first time I saw this song I got chills down my spine. It was just such a good "we can win"! song. I still think it is one of my faves from the show. I mean, I loved the romance one...but the above one just spoke to me.
"Chale Chalo" took a while for me to like, actually. It's not one of my favorites, granted, but it's almost like the Bollywood version of "Eye of the Tiger," right?!
My favorite has to be "O Ri Chhori." I was obsessed with "Mitwa" for an unexplainable reason when I first saw Lagaan, but "O Ri Chhori" is out of this world for me. I can hardly explain why it's so awesome--I could just listen to it on days on end and be happy. It's always the complete highlight of the movie for me when it gets to this song. :B
I loved the way that the film, despite being set in the (19th?) century, managed to capture the current feeling of India at the time of the film's release - one of a country that had been under the shackles of colonial powers and it's own prejudices and lack of self belief for too long. The story was just so inspirational and it didn't totally stereotype a race of people as oppressors.
