I agree. But sick or not, the subject is not going to go away. What will happen is that it will get badly distorted. The key point here is that if you truly believe that a human being exists from the moment of conception, the mother has no right to an abortion even if it resulted from rape. After all, she doesn't have the right to kill her rapist, so why should she be able to destroy his child? But the majority of people in this country believe that special exceptions should be made in the case of rape or incest (where the victim often has no real choice). It is muddled thinking, and one would have hoped that a debate which has been going on since Roe v. Wade would have produced more of a consensus by now.
At least this flap has encouraged people to be a little more aware of the biological facts of pregnancy.
