We'll make it a small mannor, with gardens, fields, and such. Half we live off of, and the main section re-creates a Medieval estate where - like a B&B - folks pay to "Be guests in the local Lord's Mannor". Classes in weaving, cooking, martial training, some horse work eventually. Sort of like "Fantasy Island", but w/o Khan and guest stars from the late 70's.
Wait, the NY TIMES condemning those who do not live in the city? *GASP!* Nothing pushes international socialism faster than everyone trading in the last remnants of the American Dream for a carbon copy flat with no ownership rights

I ended up watching "End of Suburbia" with runstaverun and mystedraveneyes as part of the global warming/peak oil class I took last spring. Some pretty grim stuff, some really insightful historical notes, and great ideas for adaptation.
One of the communities praised by the movie was the former military base right near where cessna182 lives. It was redeveloped as a much more eco-friendly pro-walking community, a sort of re-urbanization of suburbia. The development's done amazingly well, and is a great model of how to do it right.
I've also got a book and video on post peak oil Cuba, if you're interested.
