I'm building my kit up at the moment, and trying to do it properly (though obviously some things have to wait because of financial constraints; we're only drilling at the moment, rather than taking part in events, so I've got 'til the summer). I don't see the point if you're not going to try and be as authentic as possible.

Thanks for the offer - I may well take you up on that! My partner sews (and is trading me sewing for chunks of rent at the moment...) but patterns in particular would be really useful. I've got some from patterns of time, but am on the lookout for more...

I'm in the process of getting my jacket fabric from Sean Phillips, though it's going to take a while to come through because of the small mill runs.

Of course, reenacting a famously shabby regiment has its advantages! (Personally I find it a bit disconcerting when folks who are meant to have been on campaign for ages show up for battles pristine white and ironed.)

Hi again,

Excuse my ignorance but what period do you re-enact - Napoleonic? Are you by any chance in the 95th Rifles re-enactment group. Saw them at Detling a couple of years ago, they looked impressive.

My Regiment, the King's Lifeguard of Foote, used to march to the strains of "little boxes, little boxes" being sung at it as there was a very chocolate-box image of it. My Companie, the Earl of Lindseys, is in particular better as we are trying to establish alternative identities for events when the King's Guard weren't present, much against the wishes of the higher-ups...
