I was reading one of the short stories in "The Return..." yesterday and there's a bit where Watson describes Holmes thus:

"Holmes's eyes were shining and his cheeks tinged with colour. Only at a crisis have I seen those battle-signals flying," and you just /know/ what I thought he meant by "crisis."

I try to blame D.H. Lawrence of course, but it's mainly the fault of the slashgoggles.
