"Why do you care so much about rape culture if you've never been raped?"

It's a fallacy that people who care about rape culture must necessarily have been raped. I am one of the lucky people who has so far not happened to be in the vicinity of a rapist (at least not one who got the opportunity), yet I cannot remember a time in my life when rape culture was not a paramount concern to me.

Nice post! I agree with the empathy bit. Given the statistics-- between 1 in 6 and 1 in 4 women having been raped or sexually assaulted, and lots (not sure how many) of people having been molested-- the odds are extremely low that one doesn't have any family members or bff's who haven't been raped or deeply affected by rape. And most people would like to believe that they'll stick up for their friends and family. That leaves scant few who don't have a reason to care about rape culture.

Thank you, Ciana! And yes, good point; even if one does not fear for one's own safety, rape culture should matter to us all because it will in all likelihood affect someone directly whom we care about.
