Some people think they can be whatever they want. We make fun of those people here. But here's someone who knows what's up, and offers helpful advice to those who don't understand that this is not their story to write.
Fun fact that I've learned about anyone wanting the "Opinion" or "Critique" on their RP concepts: They want praise.
They want butt-pats and cookies for the thing they came up with, and fully expect them. This is the case with most, if not all, situations I've come across in the past.
Someone asks for thoughts on playing a San'Layn. They get explosive angry when you give them cites and explanations on why they should not. Someone brings up their concept for a High elf, former mage, not-a-worgen Druid. After everything given, they cry foul and "You don't know me! You've never seen my RP!"
I find now it's simply best to let them do what ever they damn well please. I'll make my case, don't get me wrong, but I won't push it. It's when they discover that I, or friends, or people they admire in RP don't want to play with that concept that the point gets across.
The guy asking about the gargoyles seemed cool with it (though it did take him a while to drop it). It was another person who really complained. Then again, that one was clearly a forum alt, so who knows?
And yeah, that's pretty much what I thought about when I saw that person's post lol "What fun is it to RP the same as everyone else?" they said. "What fun is it to RP alone?" I thought in silent response.
That... that was beautiful... *wipes away a tear* Thank you for that.
I wish I could be as eloquent and articulate as your post here. I often have trouble getting my point across, but this was a wonderful comment. Wish I could rate it.
Wow, I'm... literally sitting here blushing and grinning stupidly. Thanks! I'm so glad it made sense, I feared I was just going off on random tangents again.
...the sad thing is it's true for the really stereotypical WoD players. What was worse is for a time White Wolf acknowledged it and was sorta embarrassed by it. ._.
My husband ran a WoD LARP group. The best RP'er he had was a gentleman who RP'ed a Malkavian. The sole agreement this guy made with anyone he did deals with, was that in order to talk to him, to even think of making a deal with him, they had to bring him a teddy bear. Everyone was mystified over what the deal was with the Teddy Bears.
So one day, OOC, my husband asks him. "Dude. Completely OOC, because I have to DM this stuff and I'm STILL trying to figure it out...what is the deal with the Teddy Bears?"
Malk guy looks at him with a smile, and goes "Not a damn thing." "So why the teddy bears?" "People are so focused on the teddy bears, they don't see (char) undermining their entire empire. They're too busy trying to figure out the damn bears." And it was true. And absolutely hilarious.

That doesn't exempt them from other people having opinions on it.
