So yea, remember when Real IDs were supposed to be something you use with RL and close online friends?

Not anymore.

TLDR: Real ID is going to be used on the forums. Old posts will remain unchanged, but when cataclysm rolls around all new forum posts will be using your real name.

This seems more topical for say, worldofwarcraft or wow_ladies, tbh.

Maybe, but I remembered seeing a post about the Real ID system not too long ago here so I thought it was alright.

This is pretty much the last straw for me. I'm just not willing to play a game made by a company that is so lacadaisical with the privacy of its subscribers. I like to be anonymous online. I am known by my screen name, not my real name. Hell, I played PvE on Azjol-Nerub for 5 years and no one knew my real name except two people at the very end.

This really doesn't sit well with me, and even if Blizz decides to modify this, I'm seriously finished. WoW has been boring me for months now, and I am probably just going to quit.

And millions of trolls suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I don't use the WoW forums, it's like shouting into a hole. People should own what they say, though.

Whaa -- what the fuck? Why?

I, too, have been harassed by creepy people online. For Christ's sake, I've dealt with enough angry, desperate freaks in WOW alone to know that this Real ID-to-forums thing is dangerous. I don't like the idea that people who have sexually harassed me and my friends could just browse for real names like candy in a shop!

God damn it, the more I think about it, the more angry this makes me feel. I know an avid WOW player who has a very unique real name. D: And this person is not very smart about Internet security; such a person doesn't need help from Blizzard to be more vulnerable! FFFFFFUUUU--
