Tavern RP is Serious Business

I’ve oft commented that the RP on ThoBro is as dead as a Zombie that has just cut down, set fire to and left to rot in the snow for the last three weeks. But every now and then I see something that makes me realise that not just is the RP dead, but we’d be better off if everyone just admitted it and moved on ( Read more... )

I rarely, bordering on never, see people say they see RP taverns work in excellent form in the present tense. While they are a good idea in theory and a potentially very valuable community resource, in practice they're rarely anything worth giving pause to. More important, I have a hunch most of those "used to" taverns that were so great benefit a good deal from the golden shine of hindsight.

As for this little shitgobbling assbaron... I have to admire the balls his little scheme took to actually try.

The Drunken Kodo is working and has been for several years because, unlike this guy, their main purpose isn't to make a quick buck. I looked at the site earlier and was disappointed. If he wasn't concentrating on making money, maybe it would work. Worry more about the RP and less on the e-cash.

'Course, turning a RP event into a job automatically dooms it, too, unless the potential players are uh... actually dedicated to it.

I can't blame people for trying. Alliance had some good RP going before things blew up and scared everybody off-server, over to Horde-side or into hiding.

Meh, I dunno. The Kodo always seemed VERY angled towards the TBDF clique, and large as that clique was (or is), once its collective butthurt turned against you, it was quite clear you were unwelcome. I made several attempts at visiting there on Korzon, my old, abandoned orc hunter back on TB and honestly, barring a few spurts of "decent" RP that fizzled once someone more popular with the group showed up, it was a wasted effort.

And no, I didn't just hang away from the crowd and be emo, Korzon was a chatty, friendly orc who loved talking about worgs, bows, worgs and also worgs.

You might know me as Matojo. I do remember interacting with you there, but I also remember - going to be honest and blunt here - your personality type not meshing with anybody in the TBDF channel. The crowd has changed a lot, mind (Xyra's buggered off, several of the major ZCers don't use the channel or forum since I became administrator/webtroll @ thoriumbrotherhood.net, etc).

The last time I went (it's been a while, I've been pretty fucking anti-social outside my guild for several months) it was mostly people new to the RP community. NGL, lots of elves. Korzon would have had plenty of ammo. :P

Can't edit my comment, but: None of this changes that it has become and been a very important cornerstone of the Horde RP community on TB, no matter what personal opinions of the crowd happen to be, despite the belief that Taverns are doomed to failure. Once the ZC pulls out of it, though, I'm pretty sure the Kodo WILL die.

I think I've seen this guy advertising in General the few times I'm actually in Stormwind. Glad I didn't consider going, but that's partially because I'm usually only in Stormwind to get something (I much prefer going to Ironforge) and because I've never been a fan of tavern RP.

I know someone who RP'd as the bartender for the Blue Recluse for a time, and he ended up quitting out of frustration over the behaviour of the other players (fights every night, nobody ever "cleaning up" after a fight, etc)

The Salty Sailor Tavern on Sentinels has done well and has been around since forever, right? but like any guild, there's gonna be drama. the Salty Sailor gets respect for the Leaky Bucket and because Mariveaux is a sweetie. but when it comes to the 24601 bajillion owners of Wayfarer's, i just roll my eyes.
