Mmmm, Phantom... I am so confused about Phantom. I have an unfortunate tendency to analyze it and compare it to other versions, the book, the Andrew Lloyd Webber, the film...
I am forced to admit I was not as blown away as I expected to be by Phantom. I find the pacing strange (not as much menace from the Phantom as I'm used to) and some of the music a bit tuneless.
On the other hand, although he takes a little time to kick in properly, there's Wao's Erik... and he breaks your heart... T_T Which is reason alone to love it!
I analyzed and compared it quite a bit in my Phantom rant. Basically I came to the same conclusion you did:
On the other hand, although he takes a little time to kick in properly, there's Wao's Erik... and he breaks your heart... T_T Which is reason alone to love it!
That's why I keep coming back to Phantom. Even if some parts are disappointing, Wao's Erik makes me cry so much that I can't help but love it. ^__^;
