Hah, same for me with the airplane crash and the whole queensday thing. Following hashtags or keywords with Tweetdeck comes in handy. I didn't actively participate, but it was fun following everyone's thoughts.
And the coolest thing is this is the first event I can think of where social media was used to such an extent in Singapore... furthermore it has had traditional media completely and utterly beaten - pro journalists were way too slow on the uptake and flash photographers got ushered out, whereas people kept snapping with their mobile phones.
Plus Singapore has such an ingrained culture of apathy that it's really amazing seeing people actually come together and give a damn, heh. For once the government is not stepping in and attempting to control everything!
This is... hopelessly belated, because explorer.exe had crashed and I couldn't see whether I had gotten any new mails or not, and had no thought to check my gmail inbox. Forgive me! ;_; You've probably heard everything by now.
I believe the signs said something along the lines of "WE ARE AWARE". I honestly thought the hardcore conservatives would've brought their own banners and stuff along, but it was the pro-old guard side that was really out in full force today. Does this video remind you of school days a wee bit? Just curious...
no worries, and sorry for my late response! thanks so much for the videos -- i hadn't realised from reading the reports just how charged the atmosphere was. *_*;;; )(as for reminding me of school days -- heh, on account of the shrieking and cheering? maaaaybe.)
and that page 73 nonsense is even sillier when one actually watches it. man.
