A while back laulan and I got into quite a lengthy debate over where one must keep one's peanut butter, each thinking the other was being ridiculous, until we went and fetched our buttery jars and showed the storage instructions to each other via webcam and we discovered that YES, transatlantic differences extend even as far as peanut butter housing ( Read more... )

Peanut butter in the fridge! It sounds so scary otherwise! *g*

(I now live in a place where they don't refrigerate eggs. I've stopped eating them. It's so sad, but I can't help the DNW reaction that I have.)

People are way too uptight about the potential contamination of their food, anyway~ Expiration dates don't mean a ton. If it smells and looks okay, it is ok.

Most American condiments say "keep refrigerated" on the jar because Americans, as a whole, are litigious as well as stupid. Basically, because the condiment companies don't wish to be sued, they tell people to keep everything in their refrigerators, even though the very nature and point of most condiments was to deal with lack of refrigeration ( ... )

The only time I've ever kept PB in the fridge is if it's ~all natural~ PB, so basically mashed peanuts and oil. IDK why, that's just how my mom does it. Other than that, PB stays in the pantry!
