*chinhands*

So what did everyone here who went to/goes to university/college(/whatever other synonyms for degree-level education there may be) do their dissertation(s) on?

I'm thinking I might do mine on something about the rise of women professionals in nineteenth century mass fiction, except then I might have to look at JANE AUSTEN NOOOO.

rl: my ridiculous degree, *chinhands*, tell me your secrets

Maybe not cheerful, BUT IT SOUNDS REALLY INTERESTING.

NO. SHE BORES ME. EVERYTHING ABOUT HER BORES ME *rends garments*

She seems boring, until you dive into the subtle underlayer of spicy intrigue and emotion that is hidden by the apparently calm surface. Nothing happens - and that's exactly where everything is happening.

/butting in with her love of Jane Austen and the term paper I did a month or so ago on Mansfield Park.

I am doing one dissertation on how the same character can be held ethically responsible for the same events to different degrees in retellings of a single story, looking in particular at Phaedra in the Hippolytus myth, and one on how sentence structures used in book blurbs change depending on the reading ability/age of the target audience, which is making me want to cry.

I am also (for the same date (WHICH IS IN LESS THAN A MONTH (AAAAAAH))) writing one essay comparing discourse in House to actual medical discourse and one on the cads of Jane Austen (well, I like her).

Your first dissertation MADE MY EYES GLAZE OVER. I'm sure (I hope?) it is interesting, but oh what a hefty sentence it is. Well, sentence clause. Whatever.

Oh no I am dreading the massive massive mountain of work that third year (almost typed s3, er) promises to be :[ but at least your House-y essay sounds potentially fun? And I may not like Jane Austen, BUT I DO LIKE CADS!

The title of mine was "Uncanny London: The Familiar And The Unfamiliar In Representations of London In The Sign Of Four, The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde and Dracula"

It was all about how the concept of foreign intrusion played a massive role in 19th Century Fiction and how the fear of the unkown/alien was represented in this fiction.

God, I so wish I had written it on Slash...*sniggers*

Women Professionals as basis sounds good. I know a lot of people who went for that direction in their dissertations.

:-)

Good luck deciding!!

*hugs*

How about the relative dynamics of the formation of uninhabited autonomous exploration vehicles? Er. And design-oriented risk analysis of theoretical propulsion systems? No?

I LIKE JANE AUSTEN. Also, you could write about Pride & Prejucide & Zomies, with awesome illustrations.

All of these titles are making me seriously dread my diss and yet again reassess why on Earth I am still doing a degree that I hate >.<

I think you should do one that involves fanfiction. Somehow. Because my attitudes to education have decreased dramatically in maturity since reaching Uni.
