The bartender was so saddened by all the stacks of books and note-taking and Academic Discussions we were having, he gave us all free sambuca shots.

Seriously! That's the advantage of going to a nice little pub instead of a Wetherspoons or whatever. Bartenders will notice and take pity if you're there to work!
