losing love to this law

Has Kerouac always been so homoerotically charged? Maybe I'm just reading through my slashgoggles, but there have been some seriously eyebrow-raising moments. I just don't know what to think. (Mostly, I am thinking 'JACK/NEAL = OTP Y/N ( Read more... )

i love you jack kerouac, my internet hates me, homoerotic subtext

I'm not sure how much of the gay I would have picked up on if I hadn't studied Kerouac for the first time in a class that took care to point out the gayness, but...yeah. I remember a lot of that part of the class being like,

JACK KEROUAC AND OTHER PEOPLE: *head over to Neal Cassady's apartment*
NEAL CASSADY: *opens the door naked, because he is TOO MANLY FOR CLOTHES*
JACK KEROUAC: *_____*

And then he writes a lot about how awesome Neal CassadyDEAN MORIARITY THE FICTIONAL CHARACTER is.

Currently I'm reading Big Sur, in which Jack writes a lot about how awesome Neal Cassady Dean Moriarty CODY POMERAY is and also about how much ~*CODY*~ wants Jack to sleep with all his mistresses in order to really tie their love together or something. And sometimes they are brought to near-tears JUST BE LOOKING AT EACH OTHER.

INCREDIBLY HOMOSEXUAL.

...I never read Big Sur, but wow, that is impressively homoerotic. And oh, man, I just remembered the part in On The Road where they pledge to be BFF and stick together while there is a wedding procession going by in the background.

I have been inspired to google now! APPARENTLY, he really was one with the gay. The homophobic, self-hating, Catholic guilt, omitting all tales of his homosexual exploits from his autobiographical works kind of day, but THE GAY, NEVERTHELESS.

Awww, Jack/Neal = unrequited love.

It's drive-by waving!

*waves* Hey Tree, glad to see you're still alive after the TV polishing incident.

I actually have nothing to say about Kerouac other than I liked So I Married an Ax Murderer.

WHY HELLO THERE.

It was a definite close shave with the TV polishing, but I'm working through it.

I've never seen it! Does it... have Kerouac in it? Perhaps murdering people with axes?

Kerouac is in it in a very tangential way. The hero in the movie likes the book and writes poetry about it. Um. That's it.

WHY YES. There are ax murderers in it. Plus Alan Arkin and Mike Meyers. And huge cups of coffee and haggis.

... D: oh, you break my heart.

It looks like this, only my dad's version is bigger. Light, light sponge on top and then this kind of thick lemony sauce on the bottom and mmmm.
