Retrospective on gaming at Dragonflight

Last weekend at Dragonflight, Skaff Elias, Peter Adkison, Tim Beach, and I spoke on a panel whose topic was a retrospective on D&D, especially concerning Gary and Dave, who passed away over the last year. I also ran D&D "0e meets 4e," to substantial success.

Wilhelm pointed out that I was wrong about the T&T classes. I said they had a fighter, spell-user, and skill-user, but the third class (rogue) was not a skill-user but a fighter/wizard combo. For the first 4 editions, the rogue was superior to the fighter, having everything the fighter had plus a little magic. In 5th edition, they introduced the rule that fighters got double duty from armor. That gives the fighter a reason to be, but it's a pretty terrible rule because it slows down combat even more ( ... )
