Interesting... Their past experience as slaves to the Illithid would make them fanatically resistant to attempts by the drow to enslave them, leading to a lengthy and unproductive attempt to occupy their lands and subdue them as a people.
on the elemental note... the Svirfneblin are able to call up elementals, their size dependent on the number of deep gnomes present. they also have the ability to hide even from drow, allowing a more stealthy mission than chunky, clumsy, dwarves.
ha! my DM hates gnomes too. in spite, since he killed my rocking halfling ranger im now playing a gnome illusionist. eat my DC30 will saves! hehe. i was very much anti the cuter races but then i got bored of humans and went all munchkin. the deep gnomes are specially cool because they are hideous, which sort of takes them out the 'cute' bracket.
im loving ur drowness. one of the campaigns im on right now is an old greyhawk one - queen of spiders. we just got to erol hi'kinluh, the drow city. drow make me hard. all that innate power and their tight little bodies. that and their darkenss ability lets then do it with the lights off anywhre and any time. hehe.
