My most successful characters have been an chaotic-neutral (with evil tendencies) illusionist (who survived to 15th level before being retired due to her role as the mother of the anti-christ), a lawful-evil monk (who died at 18th level at the hands of a demi-god), and a chaotic-good homosexual wizard who is only seventh level but survived in a campaign where all my companions died repeatedly (a game that is on permanent hold because the other players became excessively bitter that the entire group constantly perished while I continued to eke by, gaining both political and magical power).

be assured that we have similar spirits regarding our character development.
in an all male 1/2 str8 group, I played a female monk, who convinced (a str8 player) to have sex with me to patch things between waring dragons and gods.
