It took me about a day and a half to finish DH. It exhausted me. Which is good, since, for instance, OOTP got boring in places and this one never did. A few rambling thoughts... SPOILERS AHEAD!
So many happy families. I realize this is a kid's series, but did JKR really have to reinforce so strongly the same "happily ever after" stereotypes that make people so depressed during the holidays because they're largely nonexistant?
Especially after they went through so much "reality." Afterall every time I say I thought there was too much violence, the answer is "well, that's war." Well, fine. Then there's too much happily ever after post-war!

Yeah, I can understand JKR wanting to make the point that terrible things can happen, and still it turns out OK in the end. Maybe that's necessary in kid's books. A teeny bit of balance would have been nice, though... like a glimpse of how George was coping after losing his twin brother.
I agree -- I really did enjoy the book, I think better than any since Goblet of Fire. OOTP was too rambling and HBP left me a bit devastated, until I read everyone's theories propounding about why Snape was still a good guy. I haven't gone back to read anything though. I'm waiting for someone to make up a genealogy chart.
I think you must mean as a repercussion to their actions in support of Voldemort? (because I remember the bit about how they were sitting at one of the tables in the Great Hall after the battle). That's a really good question. Maybe they got away with it again by claiming they were under Imperio.
Yes--that's exactly what I mean. They're sitting in the Great Hall, with all these survivors, and no one says "Hey, that man's a known Death Eater! What are he and his family doing in HERE?" The next we hear, Draco's at Platform 9 3/4, with his WIFE AND CHILD (?!) and no mention of what happened after the battle--did Dad go to prison? die? What about Mom?
Wonder if Harry vouched for Narcissa after she literally spared his life in the Forest...that alone would go far in redeeming HER in many eyes. But Lucius? Draco may not have done any killing, so that's probably how he got off, but I feel JKR should've at least had the Trio perhaps says something like "Psst, there's Draco...he's been more sedate since Lucius *whatevered*...and his mom *whatevered*."
*sigh* Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll publish an "Unaswered Questions Guide to HP"....

I did hear she was working on some sort of encyclopedia. It will certainly be interesting to find out!
