Evangeline Lilly will be playing a new character-the Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Her name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’ and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing! (No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas.) What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring ( Read more... )

She must be an awesome human being or something, because her acting abilities are definitely not there and do not warrant this acting gig. Or, maybe dating Dom Monaghan for awhile gets you places.

Dom's not going to be in the movie, right? Because that would be awkward. Seeing how they broke up and then she had a baby with some random dude :/

I don't liiiiiiiiike her! She's going to ruin my movie. Why can't they just bring Cate, Liv, and Miranda back?

Wait. Why do they need a new character for the Hobbit? Unless I'm reading it wrong but if I'm not then WHY IS THIS HAPPENING.

I'm guessing this is to appease the people who complained about the lack of female characters in The Lord of the Rings.

HOWEVER, I would rather have three flawless females (four if we count Rosie, though we didn't see her much, five if we count that incredibly cute hobbit with the big big eyes) than Miss Boo Hoo God Made Me Too Pretty.

Why should there be appeasement? I mean, the scripts are based on a book/books. Tolkien didn't write a lot of roles for women, ergo, if you want a film with lots of women, don't go and see The Hobbit! You can't go about just making up characters to appease people. This sort of milarkey just pisses me right off...

You speak the truth, my friend. I don't understand why and WHY HER. It's as if Peter felt bad that she had a baby to take of and had no money, so he did Dom a favour and gave her a job. Ugh.

This film is losing all credibility. To be honest, once they cast James Nesbit who is about as talented as my arse, I sort of lost hope...

I don't know many of the actors that he's hired. I just last week saw Martin Freeman in a movie. It was Swinging with the Finkels and it was one of the worse movies I've ever seen. Throughout the entire thing I kept thinking "that's who's the lead in my Hobbit?" I hope that this was just one bad role because yikes.

I'll just watch the originals and reminisce about the good old days.

I've seen a lot of people on my flist flailing about Martin Freeman and...I remain singularly unimpressed. That's kind of not fair because I really don't know who he is and I hope it's one of those things where I'm like, "Whoa, hey, this was so awesome! I SO HAPPY I kept my expectations low!"

I don't watch a lot of television (I don't have a television) and the shows that I watch aren't really popular, so I was really out of the loop when they announced him as the lead. There's also the Benedict guy who everyone loves, as well.

I just... Swinging with the Finkels was REALLY bad and he was just there as an actor. I'm hoping that it was because the material sucked and he couldn't show his ~~talent.

This movie: I'm scared.

What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is - excuse you, that's a HUGE EFFING secret.

Wonder who she sucked off?

Okay, crude and rude, but really, how did she get that part? She can't act! Wonder if she blackmailed Dom into singing her praise? Idk, something must have happened... since she not only got a part, but had a part created for her - Tauriel is not in the book! (And that, unfortunately, is also why Miranda is not brought back; Eowyn wasn't born (or a very small child) back when Bilbo found the ring and all that.)

And to speculate - the new female elf is a "daughter of Mirkwood" yet not romantically linked to Legolas - do I smell a sister? Or cousin?

Talented and compelling. Talented. Compelling. o.O

I don't know how or why she got the part. I don't understand this whole CREATING a part for her. My worry is that it's going to be a big/significant part, because you can't create a part for a 'known' actress and have it be a small walk on role.

I don't like and I don't want it. Ugh. Compelling, my ass.
