I've only heard the Metallica version of "Ecstasy of Gold" so far, and despite Hetfield's stupid idea of replacing the vocal parts with his trademark "Yeah"s, it's not a cringe-inducing as one would think. That said, the only pieces on it I'm looking forward to are the Quincy Jones (the fact he collaborating with Herbie Hancock is reason enough to celebrate, that it's also for The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is all the sweeter), and MAYBE the Bruce Springsteen one, if he's doing more the Frank and Harmonica themes from Once Upon a Time in the West.
That said, I have a horrible feeling Oscars will just feature just the themes to his two Leone Westerns, The Mission and The Untouchables, and they think that's enough.
It'll be a glorious trainwreck to watch actually if the Oscars decide to have "interpretive dancing" like they've done in the past with these kind of Music features...
Maybe they'll bring the Pussycat Dolls out in cheap looking ho style western gear for some interpretive dances? They'll shake their asses behind Dion as she screams out her interpretive lyrics.
I can hear it now...
Dion: "There was a man with no name and he had a big gun, He fought the bad guys and kept them on the run."
Pussycat Dolls: "Giddy up cowboys, giddy up!"
Dion: "There were some tough gangsters making money off of illegal booze With The Untouchables on the scene those tough guys could only loose."
Pussycat Dolls: "Watch out tough guys, watch out!"
The Academy Awards isn't much more than an expensive People's Choice Awards- it's fun, but the only really cool factor (to me) is that it can give the winners possibly more clout to get movies greenlit, or give more box office to tiny flicks or when Michael Moore gets to command the microphone.
The 'tribute' sounds pretty groanworthy, but most of the musical numbers at the Academy Awards have almost always been pretty obnoxious anyways- par for the course. At least Britney Spears or any of the other 'prostitots' aren't on the cd tribute, no?
The Academy Awards are hella fun! It's the only award show I enjoy just for the history, as well as the pride, pomp & circumstance.
The musical numbers are often super groan worthy! Celine and Britney both crawled out the same hole as far as I'm concerned so I'm getting chills thinking about Dion honoring Morricone. gah!
