Speaking of books. Did you know there was a novel_bigbang for original fiction? mimimum word count is 20,000 words and you get art to go with your fic. First drafts are due in June and final drafts I think are due the end of September. You could submit one of your NaNo projects, or write something new.

I didn't know that, but I don't think I can commit to anything else right now. Thanks for the info, though.

I would be embarrased at the amount of trashy novels that would be up there. I read like 2 a week, in ebook form. My University professors would be ashamed of me, for sure.

But this is still a great idea... Hmmm.

Yeah, I haven't read any yet this year, but I'm sure they'll go up there eventually.

I read too many fics. That's my biggest problem. I've already listened to several books this year on my way to and from work, but I haven't really found a book book to keep my attention.

Oh, I'm so glad you liked it. I fretted over it something awful.

Anyway, I'm sure I should have done this long ago, because you've always been very encouraging to me with whatever I've written, but would you mind if I friended you?

Popping over here to stop spamming Jenn's journal.

I'm adding you to my flist -- Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favorite authors of all time. The fact that you mentioned her in your profile solidified it for me. ♥

Also, I've been reading a lot lately and this post is making me all kinds of happy.

Hi. ♥

Hee. Jenn's going to be all 'why? mushroom haters, why?" when she sees our awesome poetry in the morning.

I tend to throw Barbara Kingsolver's books across the room and weep because I will never be able to write anything so wonderfully. Then I wipe my eyes and pick it back up and pet it and find out what happens next.

I have not been reading reading as much as I have been listening to books recently, (too much fic reading for me, sadly) but I feel like I learn a lot about writing that way too, because it starts to seep into my brain. I definitely recommend Pat Conroy's newest, South of Broad, but Lordy it made me cry. (and yes, I realize it's Conroy and he's going to do that, but I hate driving down the interstate and trying not to weep.)

Hi! ♥

Ahh, very true. Though she may be in awe of our limerick-y talent. :P

I totally understand!!! Although I tend to throw books across the room when they piss me off (most recently: Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner. I usually love her, but I was so pissed off at her for something she put into that book that I thought was totally unnecessary and just put in to tug at the reader's heartstrings.), but yeah, I read Kingsolver and just breathe in her brain.

I've been reading so differently over the past couple of years, and it's been soo good for me as a writer, too. There is this amazing woman -- a teacher of teachers and a student of writing (background: I teach first grade) named Katie Wood Ray that talks about the need to really "read like a writer" if you want to become a better writer. I talk about that with my students and do it for myself and it has made SUCH a difference. (both in my teaching and my writing).

I shall look up Conroy's book!!!

♥ So nice to meet you!
